I am always very grateful to the artists who share their techniques, or something new that they saw or learned. The curious experimenter in me always wants to try and see if it ‘fits me’. This time I tried mixed media collage. It started as learning experience from trying to make crystalline collage paper that I saw  here (‘True Color’ blog). Then when I  blogged with Carly on how she did it, turned out that I did exactly opposite. No problem. I’ll call it “my own twist” on the process. After all, I didn’t plan to make a collage. I combined it with pour media technique that I learned here (‘Puddle of Thoughts’ blog) and planned just to frame it as it is. Somehow, a week later, the idea about this particular collage was born and  I forgot all about framing (I just need to do another one to fulfill that plan). I used purposely created creases of the tissue paper as the leaves’ veins and I like the effect. So, you’ll be the judge…

I also learned on one post today about Austin Kleon’s book ‘Steal Like an Artist’. I looked at it on Amazon and it has a very good ‘Look inside’ on it. So, for those of you who still try to create your own style, like I do…”start copying what you love…”.

    • Thank you so much first of all for remembering that I ask you to ‘taste’ my artwork, second of all for taking time to look at it and comment on it. You made me smile! Thank you!

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog, Yelena. I love what you’ve done with mixed media on canvas in this piece. And I agree — it’s so true that looking for inspiration from other artists can start a whole new direction of your own!

  2. Absolutely stunning work, Yelena! I came over to thank you for your recent visit to my blog and liking one of my posts…and am so glad I did. Look forward to keeping up with your talents and reflections.

  3. It’s neat to see someone “stretch” themselves and create something wonderful! There are so many talented interesting artists with phenomenal ideas…and I love the words of wisdom re; copy…copying and making it your own is the highest form of flattery…now that I am “stuck” again, perhaps will try something in mixed media…thanks for the inspiration
